The Readymade collaboration with Los Angeles artist Cali Thornhill DeWitt: a hooded khaki down jacket embroidered all over with his blackletter slogans, scrawled phrases and melting smiley faces.

The Piece

Cali Thornhill DeWitt is the Los Angeles artist whose blackletter slogans and punk-flyer graphics shaped a decade of streetwear, from his work with Kanye West to his own exhibitions. His collaboration with Readymade, Yosuke Hosokawa's Tokyo label built entirely on vintage material, pairs two sensibilities that rarely overlap: DeWitt's urgent, fatalistic text and Readymade's patient reworking of military cloth.

The jacket is model RE-CD-CO-KH-00-90. The khaki shell is embroidered front, back and sleeves. On the chest, Expect the Worst in black is overstitched in red with Lost to Love; a purple circle of text curls around the left pocket; Dig a Hole runs down the right sleeve and three yellow smiley faces, each a little more undone than the last, run down the left. Across the back, Readymade in blackletter crowns a block of red text that reads Let's Get Out of Here, framed by further lines running down each side.

Inside is the hand-written Readymade reproduction label, 'down jacket, made from vintage US Army tent shell', and the orange nylon lining that the label uses on its down pieces. The hood detaches, with orange drawcords and a snap placket.

Size 4 is cut very large, with a long sleeve and a broad, boxy body. It is a statement coat that works best worn open over simple layers.
