Cartier Santos frames in silver-tone metal with the screw heads picked out in gold and temples tipped in bordeaux. Made in France.

The Piece

The Santos screw, borrowed from the 1904 wristwatch Louis Cartier made for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, became the signature of Cartier’s eyewear in the 1980s and 1990s. These frames carry it at the hinges and the bridge.

They are currently fitted with grey prescription lenses, so most owners will have an optician fit their own lenses or plain sun lenses.

Condition

• Good condition, with some signs of use.
• Scratches and rubbing to the metal and fine scratches to the lenses.
• The nose pads are slightly bent and aged, and the logo at the temple tips is rubbed.

Temple and bridge markings, hinges, screws and the Santos detailing are examined together and documented in Japan before dispatch. Every piece carries the Japonista authenticity guarantee. Clean with a microfibre cloth only and store in a hard case.
