A bright, architectural pair of gilt hanging lanterns that restores the vertical shimmer and symmetry a Buddhist altar depends on. Contemporary Heisei-era fittings with electrical wiring, they are about completion rather than age, framing the principal image with paired light and layered, reflective metalwork.
The Piece
This pair of gilt temple hanging lanterns belongs to the family of rintō and yōraku-style fittings and is presented as a practical, contemporary set rather than a premodern antique. The finish is clean and uniform, with a consistent gilded tone and repeating cast ornament that signal later production, and the lanterns are wired for use and in generally tidy condition.
In a butsudan or temple-adjacent interior they function less as objects of age than as objects of atmosphere. They create the vertical shimmer that traditional yōraku fittings are meant to produce, light catching on layered metalwork so that the altar space feels active and ceremonially heightened. Hung in a pair, they frame the honzon with symmetry and reflective gilded presence, adding both electric illumination and depth to the altar.
This is not a historical document but a set for completing an altar presentation: for collectors finishing a butsudan, restorers seeking matching fittings for a shrine, or designers building an authentic Buddhist interior vocabulary.
