Kachō Fūgetsu: Flower, Bird, Wind and Moon

Kachō fūgetsu (花鳥風月) is a classical Japanese phrase for the beauty of nature and the cultivated habit of appreciating it: flower, bird, wind and moon. As a wagara label it gives that tradition a garment form, with embroidered denim and clothing that carry deities, geisha, moons and storm imagery across the surface.

The work sits where kimono pattern, folk tale and modern streetwear meet. Heavy embroidery is the signature, so thread tension, backing and wash on the denim are the points we photograph and describe most carefully.

Measured dimensions in centimetres are given for every piece, since Japanese sizing differs from Western sizing.
