Avirex: Leather Wings from New York

The New York label Avirex built its name on heavy leather flight jackets modelled on military issue: A-2 and G-1 patterns, nose-art patches, knit collars and cuffs. In the 1990s it found a second audience in hip-hop, and the jackets became as much a part of street style as of aviation history.

Japan’s American-casual boom embraced Avirex as one of the most visible names in the genre, and many jackets from that period remain here in good order. Leather flight jackets weigh a good deal, so we record the weight and the full measurements, along with lining, knit and zip condition.

Patches, embroidery and squadron markings are part of the appeal and part of the value; we note which are original to the jacket and which have been added.
