A commemorative Golden Lobby jacket made for the 15th anniversary of Blue Velvet's, it turns completely in the hand: black cotton velvet with Mt. Fuji, aircraft and Japan script on one side, quilted satin with Florida and California flamingos on the other. Two jackets, two continents, one piece of Japanese rockabilly history.
The Piece
Golden Lobby's Anti-Mainstream Wear belongs to Japan's dedicated 1950s scene, where rock 'n' roll, hot rods, pompadours, military jackets and souvenir graphics are studied and reassembled through a distinctly Japanese lens. In an interview, Blue Velvet's founder Hideki Kakinouchi describes Golden Lobby as a 1950s specialty clothing manufacturer and shop, connected with Blue Velvet's, the pompadour-specialist barber shop that preceded it. The commemorative crest places this example within a specific Blue Velvet's / Golden Lobby anniversary design program rather than among generic embroidered bombers.
The first side is black cotton velvet, a surface that absorbs light rather than reflecting it and gives the white, electric-blue and red embroidery unusual depth. Across the chest a stylized Mt. Fuji is worked in white and brilliant blue thread, approached by a winding white road or river. Opposite sits a blue star-and-wing badge reading “In Memory of / Blue Velvet's / 15 / Anniversary / Special”, with Japanese-character embroidery beneath. Bomb-form motifs repeat rhythmically down both sleeves from shoulder toward cuff, rendered chiefly in white with red “Blue Velvet's” lettering and small provocative insignia, giving a tattoo-like sleeve when worn; the imagery belongs to the jacket's intentionally provocative retro-military, anti-mainstream graphic vocabulary rather than any statement of endorsement.
The back is the centerpiece: large flowing white “Japan” script above a stylized blue multi-engine military aircraft, with descending bomb forms below and Mt. Fuji with a winding white landscape in the lower section. It echoes military-tour souvenir imagery while exaggerating it into Golden Lobby's unconventional rockabilly aesthetic, the electric-blue aircraft especially striking against the velvet.
Reversed, the velvet and the military imagery disappear. The second side is black diamond-quilted satin with pale blush and champagne-pink racing stripes on the sleeves. Two embroidered pink flamingos sit high on the chest above the scripts “Florida” and “California”, in an almost symmetrical collegiate or bowling-jacket arrangement. On the back, white “Florida” script rises above two pink flamingos standing among stylized green and red palm-like foliage, the larger bird centered and the smaller toward the upper left, in the asymmetry of vintage souvenir graphics. Black knit trim, white script and the restrained palette keep this side remarkably wearable: playful, tropical and lounge-like where the velvet side is nocturnal and confrontational.
The sukajan grew from postwar souvenir jackets associated with Japan and American servicemen. Golden Lobby takes that vocabulary and bends it toward its own world: instead of the expected tiger, dragon, eagle or koi, Mt. Fuji, a military aircraft, bomb graphics, Japan script and Florida flamingos, an especially compelling choice for a collector who already owns traditional dragon and tiger jackets.

Sizing Guidance
Tagged 38, best approached as a men's S, though vintage and Japanese sizing can vary considerably from present-day Western sizing. Depending on desired fit and proportions it may also suit a slim men's S, a fitted men's M, a women's M–L or an oversized women's S–M. Actual garment measurements should be the final reference rather than letter-size equivalents.
Styling Notes
The velvet side, worn with dark denim and engineer boots, is almost aggressively nocturnal; the flamingo side with cuffed jeans or chinos shifts at once toward mid-century Americana. The jacket sits naturally within Amekaji, rockabilly, psychobilly, hot-rod and vintage Americana wardrobes, alongside bowling shirts, leather accessories and vintage sneakers.
Authenticity & Care
Woven label reads “GOLDEN LOBBY – ANTI-MAINSTREAM WEAR”; the original garment label gives Cotton 100% (outer) and Polyester 100% (lining / reverse); tagged size 38. The commemorative Blue Velvet's crest suggests a period piece rather than a recent generic reproduction, and comparable Golden Lobby garments are recognized in Japan as vintage pieces associated directly with Blue Velvet's. Every piece is examined and documented in Japan before dispatch and is offered with the Japonista authenticity guarantee.
