The Piece

Mihara Yasuhiro trained at Tama Art University and began with footwear, which is why the shoe has always been the centre of his house. The Original Sole, modelled by hand in clay by the designer and then cast in rubber, keeps the slumped, melted contours of that first sculpture, so every pair looks as if a classic vulcanised sneaker had been left too close to the stove. The Hank is the leanest of the cap-toe models, closest in proportion to a classic vulcanised sneaker, and it is the one many owners wear every day.

For 2025 the house released the Hank with a deliberately soiled finish: the white Original Sole and toe cap are washed over with grey and charcoal paint so they look as though they have walked through a city winter. Reference A14FW744 pairs that sole with black cotton canvas, black flat laces, the MMY tongue label and the red heel tab, and the inside label carries the brand’s ‘Meets Ridiculous’ motto.

The smudged sole means the shoe looks lived-in from the start and is forgiving to wear. It sits beautifully with washed black denim or grey trousers. EU 43 corresponds to roughly JP 28 cm.
