Mihara Yasuhiro: Shoes Taken Apart and Rebuilt

Yasuhiro Mihara was born in Nagasaki in 1972 and moved to Tokyo in 1993 to study textiles at Tama Art University. In 1994 he taught himself shoemaking, and in 1996 he launched his first label, archi doom. The clothing label SOSU MIHARA YASUHIRO followed in 1999, the year he began showing at Tokyo Fashion Week.

His adaptations of Puma sneakers, released in 2000, set the pattern for what collectors now seek: familiar sports silhouettes pulled apart, re-stitched and rebuilt from mixed materials. He showed in Milan in 2004, then in Paris, where the label now trades as Maison MIHARA YASUHIRO.

Condition matters more with footwear than with almost any other category. Older polyurethane soles can crumble even in unworn pairs, so we describe sole, insole and upper separately. Measure against the Japanese shoe size reference before choosing a pair.
