A heavyweight B-3 from the old Real McCoy’s era, reproducing the Rough Wear contract jacket worn by WWII bomber crews. Dense sheepskin, contrasting leather reinforcements and a buckled throat latch carry the uncompromising logic of high-altitude survival, now softened by an even, honest patina.
The Piece
This B-3 shearling flight jacket is executed with a high degree of fidelity to wartime construction standards, reproducing the WWII bomber specification as made under the Rough Wear contract. It belongs to old Real McCoy’s era production, a lineage tier collectors particularly prize.
The B-3 was issued to crews flying in unpressurized aircraft above 20,000 feet, where temperatures could fall below -40°C, and it was designed to retain heat under static conditions, prioritizing insulation over flexibility. This example keeps that philosophy intact: heavy, structured and purpose-built, with a cropped waist and wide shearling collar.
The sheepskin mouton body forms a full fleece interior that still holds dense volume. The dark seal-brown body is set against reddish-brown reinforcement panels that map durability zones across the jacket, and the outer leather responds to light with depth rather than shine. The hardware follows the period system: a war-era style zipper, a dual buckle throat latch for wind-sealing closure and waist adjusters for thermal containment, all aligned with original military construction.
