This officially licensed Kantai Collection jacket turns the aircraft carrier Akagi into a reversible sukajan, framing her with coiling dragons, cherry blossoms, turbulent water and storm clouds. Dating to 2015 and preserved as deadstock with its original hang tags, it speaks the full visual language of the souvenir jacket rather than that of a printed anime bomber.

The Piece

Akagi is one of the signature fleet characters of Kantai Collection (KanColle, 艦隊これくしょん), drawn in a hybrid visual language of naval history, anime character design and traditional Japanese symbolism. Her long flight deck and archery equipment reinterpret the aircraft carrier through the figure of a kyūdō archer. On this jacket the surrounding dragons amplify a sense of power and protection, while the cherry blossoms bring beauty, impermanence and the fleeting intensity of battle; the contrast between delicate petals and heavily scaled dragons gives the artwork its tension, elegance floating through controlled chaos. The black, silver, red and gold palette is darker and more theatrical than the colors usual to anime merchandise.

The primary black side sets Akagi in a dense landscape of coiling dragons, sakura branches and falling petals. Two mirrored dragon compositions twist through cherry blossoms across the chest and shoulders, with gold embroidered kanji flashing against the restrained charcoal, silver and muted pink. Across the back the embroidered inscription reads “Aircraft Carrier Akagi”: she stands at the center with her stylized flight deck and archery equipment, framed by two dark dragons, storm clouds, water currents and drifting blossoms.

Reversed, the jacket shows white sleeves, deep crimson shoulder panels and a black central body, with a monumental dragon coiling beneath Akagi on the back and cherry blossoms scattered across branches and water. The red-and-white architecture recalls both the Japanese flag and Akagi’s shrine-maiden-inspired costume: dark, intricate and gothic on one face, vivid and graphic on the other.

Both faces are finished rayon exteriors. The imagery combines printed textile artwork with embroidered lettering and selected embroidered details, giving a lighter, more flexible feel than an entirely thread-covered sukajan, with the liquid sheen and lightweight drape of rayon. Construction follows the souvenir jacket closely: raglan-style sleeves, striped rib-knit collar, cuffs and waistband, slanted hand pockets on both sides and a full-length metal zipper.
