Curatorial Overview
This large pair of hanging altar lanterns belongs to the architectural language of the Buddhist interior: suspended ritual hardware that frames the sanctum with vertical light and yoraku-style cascading ornament. The double-ring format and multi-tier drops create a ceremonial “shimmer” that reads at distance, especially against black lacquer and gold-toned altar interiors.
Electrical wiring is present, converting the pair into functional liturgical infrastructure. Because wiring ages differently than metalwork, the correct posture is conservative: treat wiring as legacy and plan for inspection or professional rewiring if used regularly.
