Open the doors of this full-height butsudan, approximately 156 cm tall, and a radiant gold-toned sanctuary appears as if on a stage. Built to hold a family's daily offerings and memorial rites, it joins furniture, craft and living ritual in one architectural object.
The Piece
A large traditional Japanese butsudan altar cabinet with a gold-toned sanctuary interior and real architectural presence, designed as a home shrine for daily offerings, memorial practice and the quiet continuity of devotion.
A full-height butsudan is not a decorative cabinet. It is domestic architecture for ritual, its doors opening like a stage to reveal a gold-lit sanctuary. In the home, that interior acts as a visual amplifier: candlelight, daylight and incense glow gather at the center, holding a memorial tablet, an image and offerings in a single, deliberate frame.
Pieces of this scale carry a different gravity than portable shrines. They define a room and set a tone, expressing not only a Japanese interior but a lived relationship with memory and compassion. For collectors and institutions, the value lies in the union of function and form.
The wood-bodied cabinet carries a lacquered exterior, a gold-toned sanctuary designed to hold and reflect flame and daylight, and extensive metal hardware and rails, fittings that are part of the cabinet's functional beauty and long-life design and that signal a cabinet meant to be opened, used and maintained.

Freight and Crating
Because of its packed weight and dimensions, the cabinet cannot travel by standard parcel services such as EMS, DHL, FedEx or UPS and ships as cargo only: crated, by LCL sea freight, with an export crate, moisture barrier and vibration buffering, handled as irregular museum-furniture freight. Cargo preparation typically brings delivery to 6 to 10 weeks, depending on routing, carrier availability and customs clearance.
Estimated delivery cost to the United States is approximately from USD 3,200, covering Japan domestic heavy cargo, export crating, documentation and LCL ocean freight. US customs clearance and US LTL delivery are not included and can be quoted separately or arranged through a local agent. Final cost varies with distance from port, access conditions (stairs, narrow entry, appointment windows) and the final crate measurement at handoff.
Authenticity & Care
Materials and finishes are assessed from photographs and available documentation; the sanctuary's gold appearance may be gold leaf, gold lacquer or a gold-toned finish, and it is therefore presented as gold-toned. Every piece is examined and documented in Japan before dispatch and is offered with the Japonista authenticity guarantee.
