Junya Watanabe MAN patchwork jeans from AD2014, five-pocket indigo denim overlaid with raw-edged panels of tartan, herringbone, stripe and corduroy.
The Piece
Patchwork denim is one of Junya Watanabe's signatures, a craft-driven reworking of the five-pocket jean that he has explored in many forms. This pair, from AD2014, is among the more expressive versions, combining denim with tailoring and outdoor cloths.
The base is a faded indigo five-pocket jean with copper rivets. Over it sit panels of red and green tartan, grey herringbone tweed, pinstripe wool, burgundy corduroy and lighter denim, many with raw, fraying edges and deliberate cut-outs that reveal the layer below. No two panels repeat, front or back.

A straight leg that wears easily with boots or trainers; the kind of jean that only improves with more wear.
