Tailor Toyo Kosho & Co. TT11201 Reversible Velveteen Sukajan, Returned from Hell Serpent, Tiger Reverse, Size L

A Tailor Toyo Kosho & Co. reversible souvenir jacket, TT11201: black velveteen embroidered with a serpent through two hearts under the line Returned from Hell, turning to a quilted blue and ivory tiger side.

The Piece

Tailor Toyo, the Tokyo house behind the Kosho & Co. label, has been making souvenir jackets since the post-war years and is now the reference reproduction maker, faithful enough to the 1950s originals that its pieces are collected in their own right. Its recent collaboration with Chrome Hearts has only sharpened the attention.

This is model TT11201. The black velveteen side carries a coiled green serpent threaded through two red hearts and pierced by an arrow, under Returned from Hell in white script, a tattoo-flash image typical of the Korean War era. Each sleeve carries a skull on a dagger with the scroll Death Before Dishonour, and eagles fly on the chest.

Reversed, it becomes a quilted jacket in slate-blue acetate with ivory sleeves, a crouching tiger and Japan on the back, tiger and dragon on the chest and red, cream and navy striped knit trims. The label inside reads Kosho & Co., Tokyo, Yokohama, with the size mark 大 (L), and the care label gives the model number and the cotton, acetate and wool content.

Size L: chest 56 cm, length 60 cm, sleeve from centre back 84 cm. It fits like a modern medium to large, short in the body as souvenir jackets should be.
