The Piece
The flannel check shirt is a staple Mihara Yasuhiro returns to every season, each time aged, repaired or written upon so that it feels like a personal artefact rather than a new garment. The house’s inside label carries its motto, ‘Trust yourself. Wearing instructions’, and the shirts are made to be lived in.
Reference A11SH075, attributed to autumn-winter 2023, is in a red and black ombré check cotton that has been sun-faded to a dusty rose across the shoulders and front. The back panel is covered in hand-style white script, lines of lyric-like verse about love, darkness and light, and white paint flecks scatter across the front and sleeves. Frayed edges at the hem and cuffs, a single chest pocket, the blue MMY tab and the QR modification label complete it.
The fit is relaxed and long, with dropped shoulders, so it layers over a tee or under an open jacket with equal ease.
