Anrealage AW2021-22 GROUND Studded Cowhide Double Rider Jacket, Collection Piece, Black, Made in Japan, Size 38

A collection piece from Anrealage’s autumn-winter 2021 GROUND, in which the pyramid studs crowd the shoulders and thin out towards the hem, as if gravity had pulled them down the jacket.

The Piece

Kunihiko Morinaga founded Anrealage in Tokyo in 2003, and his collections are built on single ideas pushed to their limit: light, shadow, scale, perspective. For autumn-winter 2021-22, titled GROUND, he turned to gravity, designing clothes that appear to slip, sag and fall as though pulled by an unseen force. It was shown in Paris and remains one of his most conceptual seasons.

This double rider in black cowhide makes the idea legible. Pyramid and dome studs are packed densely across the shoulders and upper back, then scatter downwards and become sparse by the waist, a shower of metal frozen in mid-fall. The construction is a proper motorcycle jacket: an asymmetric zip, snap-down lapels, a belted waist with a large square buckle, zipped chest and sleeve pockets, and a cupro lining. The label reads A/W 2021-22 GROUND.

Size 38 corresponds to a medium in Anrealage sizing, with a compact body and a sleeve that gathers softly at the wrist.

Shows light wear consistent with use and is offered at grade B. Runway leather from Anrealage reaches the open market rarely.
