The dragon, ryū, is the master of water and weather and the most enduring emblem of the Japanese souvenir jacket. Here it is embroidered in a tattoo-art idiom on a vintage royal blue bomber, a classic subject carried with dapper restraint.
The Piece
A vintage royal blue sukajan bomber embroidered with a ryū dragon in tattoo-art style. The manufacturer's size is F.
In Japanese art the dragon commands rain and rivers and guards temples and households alike, which made it the first choice of embroiderers decorating souvenir jackets from the postwar years onward.
