A crimson souvenir tour jacket in which two golden dragons curl from behind a Fifth Air Force-style roundel beneath “Tokyo Japan.” With its pointed shirt collar and buttoned cuffs it sits between sukajan, military tour jacket and Harrington: clean, direct and surprisingly wearable.
The Piece
This vintage Japanese souvenir jacket in deep crimson red is embroidered with twin dragons, swirling clouds and a bold Fifth Air Force-inspired emblem. White script reading “Tokyo Japan” arches across the back above a circular blue, white and gold insignia centered on a large numeral 5; two golden dragons curl outward from behind it amid pale blue, white and gold cloud forms. Matching dragons run vertically down both sides of the chest. The large 5 and blue-and-white military roundel strongly evoke the United States Fifth Air Force, long associated with operations in Japan and the Pacific.
Unlike a conventional rib-knit sukajan, the jacket has a pointed shirt-style collar, buttoned straight cuffs and a lightly gathered waistband, placing it between an embroidered souvenir jacket, a vintage military tour jacket and a casual Harrington-style bomber. The design concentrates its energy across chest and upper back, so the crimson ground gives the dragons and emblem enormous clarity while the pale blue clouds add a cool contrast, and a pale champagne satin lining keeps the embroidery the clear centerpiece.
The dragon, a defining motif of souvenir-jacket design, stands for strength, authority, transformation and protective energy; flanking the emblem, the pair lends the back the symmetry and ceremonial force of a military crest, almost an embroidered squadron banner, while the clouds place them in a supernatural realm. “Tokyo Japan” fixes the jacket as a location souvenir in the tour-jacket tradition that shaped postwar Japanese embroidered outerwear.
The vivid crimson body gives it immediate display presence, while the shirt collar and clean front keep it wearable, a natural fit for collections of Japanese military tour jackets, Fifth Air Force memorabilia, dragon jackets and 1980s and 1990s Japanese fashion.

Authenticity & Care
The visible label reads “Tailor / Hand Embroidery”; uniform machine stitching, synthetic satin and modern zipper construction indicate later vintage production rather than an occupation-era original, and the Tailor Toyo attribution rests on that label. Every piece is examined and documented in Japan before dispatch and is offered with the Japonista authenticity guarantee.
