Hot Rod Skeleton Muscle Car Reversible Sukajan, Rockabilly Embroidered Souvenir Jacket, Vintage Japan

A reversible souvenir jacket that trades dragons and tigers for hot rod culture: a skeleton and a muscle car carried in the rockabilly idiom that Japanese street fashion absorbed from postwar America and made its own.

The Piece

This vintage Japanese sukajan is reversible and built around a hot rod theme, a skeleton paired with a muscle car, in the rockabilly spirit of Japanese street fashion.

The sukajan, or Yokosuka jumper, began in postwar Japan as an embroidered souvenir jacket made for American servicemen and later became a fixture of Japanese street and rockabilly style.
