A Pherrow's reversible that holds two tales in one garment. On deep brown satin with gold sleeves, a dragon wraps itself around a warrior in protective coils; reversed, quilted beige and black give way to a procession of skeletons drawn from Edo-period folklore.
The Piece
On the first side, deep brown satin sets the stage for a dragon coiled protectively around a warrior figure, a classic motif steeped in Japanese legend, worked in hand embroidery. Metallic gold sleeves amplify the vintage glow, and twin-dragon embroidery on the front balances power and symmetry in the manner of old-world Yokosuka work.
Turned over, a quilted beige-and-black body becomes a flowing procession of skeletons, a playful yet culturally rich motif drawn from Japanese folklore and Edo-period art. The skeleton parade is a design sought after by sukajan enthusiasts, and this execution stays faithful to classic hand-drawn aesthetics.
Construction follows the tradition: vintage-sheen rayon satin, rib-knit collar and cuffs, and embroidery with raised detailing that catches the light at every angle. Each face tells its own story with its own energy, so the reversible structure amounts to two complete jackets in one, a representation of Japan's amekaji heritage that will continue to age gracefully whether worn as everyday art or kept as a collectible.

Maker History
Pherrow’s was founded in 1991 by Masahiro Hirata on the conviction that true craftsmanship lives in details most people never notice. Emerging during Japan's Americana revival, the company studied vintage garments with near-scientific precision, measuring stitch counts, thread tension, fabric grain, fade patterns and even the quirks of prewar sewing machines, so that its garments would age with the character of the originals.
Through the 1990s and early 2000s Pherrow’s became one of the foundations of Japan's reproduction and heritage menswear scene alongside Studio D’Artisan, Buzz Rickson’s, Real McCoy’s and Toys McCoy, balancing historical accuracy with a gentle modern refinement of fit. The house is known for its material selection: cotton twills woven on vintage shuttle looms, rayon satin dyed in small-batch lots, and high-density embroidery reminiscent of 1950s sukajan work. Its reversible jackets, military-inspired flight pieces and embroidered tour designs have become cult favorites, and many models were produced in extremely limited quantities.
Pherrow’s pieces age well: the fabric softens, the colors mellow into patina and the embroidery settles into the cloth, so that each jacket becomes a record of the person who wore it.
