Oiran, geisha and maiko in kimono, framed by cherry blossom and flowers and drawn in the anime moe manner: a Yokosuka souvenir jacket that carries old Japanese figures of grace into the language of modern illustration, offered in sizes M to XXL.

The Piece

This souvenir bomber, the Yokosuka jumper known in Japan as sukajan (スカジャン), depicts the oiran (花魁), the geisha (芸者) and the maiko (舞子) in kimono among sakura (桜), cherry blossoms and flowers, in the “sakuran” mood of blossoms in full riot. The figures are rendered in the anime moe style.

The oiran were the highest-ranking courtesans of the Edo-period pleasure quarters; geisha are professional entertainers in music, dance and conversation, and maiko their apprentices. Long favored on souvenir jackets alongside the cherry blossom, they are given here the face of contemporary anime.
