The Piece

The Speedy P9 changes the bag from the inside out through material. The rounded Boston shape, rolled handles, zip closure, removable strap and lock remain, but the coated canvas gives way to ultra-soft calfskin; Louis Vuitton describes the M14074 as supple calfskin printed with the Monogram, with calfskin trim, lambskin lining and aged-gold hardware. A key leather-goods signature of Pharrell Williams' early tenure at Louis Vuitton Men's, it takes an icon, preserves its recognizability and intensifies its color, softness and material luxury.

Because the surface is real leather, the white LV initials and Monogram Flowers follow the grain and movement of the material, bending and relaxing with the shape. The saturated blue is powerful but not cold; pale natural leather keeps it from feeling synthetic, and the muted aged-gold finish on the zip pulls, strap clasps, side hardware, lock and handle fittings adds warmth. The body is meant to feel supple: a rigid P9 would miss the point.

The 30 cm format is larger and more practical than the P9 25. Inside, the lambskin lining frames three flat pockets, a zippered pocket and a removable leather pouch, so it is far more organized than most Speedy configurations, with room for a wallet, phone, tablet, camera and documents. The adjustable strap moves it between hand, shoulder and crossbody carry.
