Why unpack into a hotel dresser when the dresser can travel with you? This interwar Monogram trunk opens onto a removable tray and four graduated drawers, a portable chest that still works as furniture today, its canvas and leather darkened by decades of genuine journeys.
The Piece
This vertical Monogram wardrobe trunk dates to around 1930, an era when luxury travel required far more than a suitcase. Rather than a single open chamber, it opens to a sequence of fitted compartments: an upper removable tray, three large drawers and a shallower lower drawer within a structured cabinet interior. Clothing and personal belongings could be separated drawer by drawer instead of stacked inside a conventional trunk, so the piece reads less as a hanging-rail wardrobe trunk than as a traveling chest of drawers inside a Louis Vuitton body.
The exterior is wrapped in brown Monogram canvas, its LV initials, quatrefoils and floral devices deepened with age. Vertical bands of warm brown leather run across the body, reinforcing the structure while dividing the Monogram field into strong architectural sections, and substantial metal hardware (multiple latches, hinges, protective fittings and fasteners) gives the trunk a distinctly industrial character. Early Vuitton trunks were not fragile accessories; they were machines for travel.
At about 81 cm high it is substantial enough to serve as sculptural furniture, rising to around 113 cm when fully opened. Left open in an interior, the drawers stay accessible and visually engaging, suited to a dressing room, a fashion archive, a boutique or a collector's cabinet.

Authenticity & Care
Monogram canvas, leather band configuration, hardware and rivet typology, latch construction and the drawer architecture are consistent with a Louis Vuitton wardrobe trunk of around 1930; the renewed lining is a later alteration.
