At 120 centimeters across, this footlocker occupies a room rather than sitting in one. Attributed to 1896, the year Monogram canvas was introduced, it pairs a dark, deeply aged canvas with rows of timber and metal: the gravity of furniture joined to the engineering of luggage.
The Piece
This Louis Vuitton Monogram footlocker is attributed to 1896 and carries the serial or production number 017388. Borne out by archival or specialist authentication, the date would place it exceptionally early in the history of Monogram canvas; because the attribution materially affects collectibility, Japonista presents it conservatively, as attributed to 1896 and open to archival verification.
At about 120 cm wide, 39.5 cm high and 57.5 cm deep, it is a genuinely large footlocker, its broad, low profile giving decorative weight without the vertical bulk of a wardrobe trunk. The historic Monogram covering is interrupted by wooden slats, metal reinforcement, rivets, corner fittings and locking hardware over a substantial wooden body, while aged leather and brass-tone fittings complete the structure: a broad lid for access, a reinforced perimeter, a low center of gravity and a rigid volume to protect belongings in transit.
Inside, a pale lining with a soft white textile character contrasts with the dark exterior across an interior of about 117 cm in width, 27 cm in height and 54.5 cm in depth; with the lid open, the trunk stands about 87 cm tall. Under a custom glass top it becomes a dramatic low table that protects the original surface beneath, and it serves equally as a low console, archive centerpiece or collector's storage.

Authenticity & Care
The trunk carries number 017388; its Monogram pattern, frame and slat construction, lock and rivet configuration and the age-consistent patina of wood, leather and hardware agree with an early Louis Vuitton footlocker, while the 1896 date remains an attribution open to archival verification.
