A Japan-exclusive hardsided trunk that joins Louis Vuitton, the Kabuki lineage of Naritaya and the silk weaving of Nishijin. Restrained in Monogram canvas when closed, the M20407 opens onto a white-and-gold Nishijin lid woven with Naritaya crests. Only 110 were produced, each individually numbered; this example is brand new.

The Piece

The M20407 belongs to Louis Vuitton's true hardsided tradition and is built quite differently from a handbag: rigid trunk construction in Monogram coated canvas, dark reinforced perimeter trim, polished metal corners, protective studs, twin front latches, a central lock assembly, a hinged lid, fitted interior organization and a removable smaller Monogram case. At approximately 36.5 cm wide it has the presence of a miniature travelling trunk rather than a simple vanity box.

Across the brown Monogram exterior, red Naritaya crest motifs interrupt the LV initials and flowers and immediately distinguish the M20407 from standard Boîte Pharmacie models. The decoration does not overwhelm the canvas; it behaves almost like a ceremonial seal placed over the Maison's visual system. Naritaya is the house name of one of the most celebrated lineages in Kabuki, the Ichikawa family of actors, and here French trunk-making, Kabuki heraldry, Nishijin craftsmanship and the Monogram meet structurally rather than superficially.

The lid interior is the masterpiece of the piece. Its fabric is a white-and-gold pure-silk Nishijin weave, with the Naritaya crest worked into the surface in golden thread; repeating geometric squares set a disciplined pattern while the gold catches changing light. Brown Monogram outside, white and gold ceremonial textile inside: Louis Vuitton turns what would be lining into a panel worthy of display.

Opened, the Boîte Pharmacie resembles a small theatre set. The pale silk lid forms the backdrop, velvet-lined compartments create depth, mirrored surfaces add reflection, and the fitted Monogram case, carrying additional red Naritaya-inspired detailing, becomes a second object within the trunk, echoing historic Louis Vuitton trunks fitted with specialized containers. Though described as a pharmacy or vanity case, it can hold jewelry, watches, small leather goods, keepsakes, cosmetics or documents, and it suits a dressing room, watch room, collector library or gallery-like interior.
