Raijin, god of thunder, rides a violet storm cloud across the back of this Jungle Storm jacket, drums circling him and golden hair flaring like lightning on royal-blue satin. A crimson quilted lining and red 雷神 kanji complete a souvenir bomber as easy to wear as it is to collect.
The Piece
A vivid Jungle Storm souvenir jacket built around a playful yet commanding interpretation of Raijin, the Japanese god of thunder and storms, embroidered across lustrous royal-blue satin. Framed by ivory raglan sleeves and striped rib-knit trim, it combines traditional mythology with the graphic energy of Japanese streetwear in a generously proportioned bomber silhouette.
Raijin occupies the center of the back beneath an arched ring of drums, flowing scarves curling behind him as a purple storm cloud carries him through the sky. Large red kanji reading 雷神, “Thunder God,” flank the figure, and smaller mirrored Raijin figures on the chest give the front its own character without overwhelming the clean, varsity-inspired lines.
Raijin is traditionally portrayed surrounded by the drums he beats to summon thunder. Here the deity has a slightly playful expression, muscular limbs, flying hair and ribbons that create a lively sense of movement; the circular drum arrangement suggests rolling thunder, and the cloud beneath his feet ties the design to classical depictions of heavenly and elemental beings. The balance is one of strength, humor and mythological storytelling.
The interior Jungle Storm label bears the wording “Start of Acceleration – Created with Sensitivity, Fostered with Intelligence, Certainty of Progression,” the kind of poetic branding associated with experimental Japanese streetwear labels. Label typography, quilted construction, palette and embroidery style appear consistent with Japanese streetwear of roughly the late 1990s to early 2000s, a period fascinated by folklore, bold souvenir-jacket imagery and accessible casual fashion. Unlike a lightweight unlined sukajan, the red diamond-quilted interior gives the jacket structure and warmth for transitional and cooler weather.
Wear it with faded denim and sneakers for a relaxed 1990s Japanese streetwear look, or set the bright satin against black trousers, boots and minimal layers; the roomy cut also sits well over hoodies, sweatshirts and knitwear. When not worn, the Raijin embroidery displays well as decorative Japanese textile art.
