A reversible Dries Van Noten bomber in pure silk: one face a dusky pink lily print on black, the other a washed navy with a soft, sueded hand, finished with taupe and black wool ribs.
The Piece
Few designers have used print and colour as fluently as Dries Van Noten, and the floral bomber became one of the signatures of his menswear in the years before his retirement in 2024. Photographic blooms, often slightly blurred or faded, were set onto silk and satin and cut into the simplest sporting shapes, so that a familiar garment carried an unmistakable image. Volker is the house name for this bomber, and the reversible version is the most versatile of the family.
The printed side shows large spider-lily blooms in dusky pink and mauve on a black ground. Turn it inside out and it becomes a plain navy bomber in washed silk with a fine peach-skin surface, a zipped chest pocket and two welt pockets. A two-way silver-tone zip serves both sides, and the collar, cuffs and hem are ribbed in a wool and acrylic knit, taupe on the print and black-edged on the navy face, so the trims change character with the side you choose. Light polyester padding and a cupro layer give it body without weight.
The fit is relaxed through the body with a dropped shoulder and blousing at the hem, true to the tagged size M and comfortable over a shirt or light knit.
It is in near-new condition, effectively two jackets in one and a piece that shows the house at its most painterly.
