Before Tiger Mask became a hero, he was feared in the ring as the Yellow Devil. This early-2010s Cropped Heads collaboration compresses that whole legend into embroidery on black satin, then reverses to a molten gold tiger-stripe bomber: one side carries the legend, the other the animal.
The Piece
The principal face presents Tiger Mask in full heroic stance on a black satin body framed by luminous antique-gold raglan sleeves. He raises one fist beneath large, slightly curved gold serif letters reading “TIGER MASK”, while matching embroidery below the figure reads “YELLOW DEVIL”, the effect of a vintage wrestling poster, championship banner or hand-painted arena sign translated into thread. His muscular torso is worked in ivory and pale grey with strong black contour lines recalling the graphic economy of vintage manga; the mask carries gold and black markings, a white muzzle, a bright red open mouth, angular ears and expressive eyes. A gold shoulder mantle flows into an enormous red cape that spreads diagonally behind him, and dark trunks with purple leggings and boots add controlled violet to the gold, red and black palette.
The wording is no stray villain’s name. In the opening chapter of the original Tiger Mask story, the masked wrestler returns to Japan after becoming notorious in American wrestling for his brutal rule-breaking style under the nickname “Yellow Devil”, before the moral transformation that made him one of Japanese popular culture’s defining heroic wrestlers. The jacket preserves both: the hero’s name above, the shadow of his former reputation below. The raised fist reads as defiance rather than simple celebration, reaching toward the lettering as if carrying his own legendary identity, while the falling cape forms a stabilizing triangular silhouette.
The composition is unusually clean for a character sukajan. Rather than surrounding the figure with clouds, flames, blossoms or additional characters, the design lets the wrestler and cape dominate the black field, and the negative space adds to his monumentality: part anime cel, part wrestling heraldry, part theatrical costume. Dense satin stitching and narrower directional outlines build the artwork; the gold lettering is raised and substantial, the crimson cape is made of long, closely packed stitches that catch the light as the fabric moves, and horizontal and diagonal stitch directions model the musculature. The mask holds the smallest, densest details: facial stripes, eyes, teeth and mouth, ear contours, white muzzle and gold forehead sections.
Turned inside out, the portrait disappears beneath an all-over pattern of irregular black stripes printed on reflective gold satin, framed by solid black sleeves with narrower tiger-striped strips down the shoulders and arms, black-trimmed angled pockets, black-and-grey striped ribbing and a clean back with no lettering or character. Graphic, feline and theatrical, it can be worn as an animal-print bomber without revealing the collaboration; black and gold run through both faces, so the reverse reads like the hidden skin beneath the Tiger Mask persona.
Cropped Heads was launched in 2001 and became known for combining Japanese imagery with Amekaji styling and a deliberately rebellious, rock-influenced attitude, drawing on wagara, souvenir jackets, tattoos, manga, rock music and postwar American casual clothing. Tiger Mask himself has always lived between fiction and performance: born in manga and animation, his mask and identity later entered real Japanese professional wrestling, making him an archetype for anime collectors, puroresu fans and popular-culture historians alike. The sukajan, a garment of performance, transformation and display, suits him naturally.

Condition
- Good pre-owned condition with signs of handling, wear and storage appropriate to an older satin souvenir jacket; the Tiger Mask figure, red cape and gold lettering retain strong color and clear definition, and the tiger-stripe reverse remains bold.
- Natural satin creasing throughout, light surface rippling and puckering around the dense embroidery, minor rubbing or tonal variation under strong light, and normal wrinkles on the tiger-pattern reverse.
- Gentle softening of the rib-knit trim, small raised embroidery fibers, and possible minor marks or thread irregularities on close inspection.
- No large tear, severe staining, missing embroidery section or major structural failure is apparent in the photographs, which form an essential part of the condition record.
Sizing Guidance
Tagged Japanese M with an approximate 51 cm pit-to-pit width, the jacket may suit a contemporary Western XS or Small for a relaxed fit, a slimmer Western Medium for a closer vintage bomber fit, a smaller-framed wearer seeking a compact silhouette, or a woman seeking an oversized statement jacket, depending on build. The raglan shoulders give more flexibility than a set-in sleeve, but the body remains compact; measurements may vary slightly with how the satin lies and whether the ribbing is relaxed. Compare with a similar jacket that fits comfortably rather than relying on the tag alone.
Styling and Display
The Tiger Mask face is the centerpiece of an outfit: black wide-leg trousers, a vintage graphic T-shirt, Japanese sneakers, silver accessories and minimal black layers; or, in an Amekaji key, faded selvedge denim, a loopwheel sweatshirt, engineer boots, a plain white T-shirt and canvas sneakers; or rockabilly, with high-waisted black denim, creepers and an open-collar shirt. The tiger-stripe reverse, which reads as abstract textile from a distance, pairs freely with black jeans, monochrome knitwear, leather trousers, minimalist footwear, gold jewelry and dark tailored pants.
Displayed from the principal face, the jacket becomes a large textile portrait that reads across a room, suited to collections of anime history, wrestling and masked-hero memorabilia, sukajan, Cropped Heads archive clothing and embroidered textile art.
Authenticity & Care
Cropped Heads × Tiger Mask collaboration, tagged size M; the measurements correspond with the archived record for this exact jacket.
