The Piece

This Cropped Heads souvenir jacket sets a skeleton skull in the manner of the gasha-dokuro against kanji calligraphy, embroidered in a tattoo-art idiom on a black rayon body with cotton lining. Punk rock and rockabilly sensibility meet the classic Yokosuka jumper, or tour jacket.

The gasha-dokuro, or starving skeleton, is a giant yokai of Japanese folklore said to be formed from the bones of those who died unburied, and it remains one of the most recognizable images in Japanese tattoo and print culture.
