A rare pair of vintage Chanel birdcage earrings in gold-tone metal, each open cage holding a suspended CC, hanging from a smaller domed cage clip.
The Piece
Under Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel costume jewellery became theatrical and witty, and the birdcage is among its most memorable motifs. Each earring is built as an open wire cage, the CC logo hanging inside like a captive bird, suspended from a smaller spherical cage at the ear.
They are clip-on, in gold-tone metal with a slightly two-toned polished edge, and the cage base is stamped CHANEL. At about 6.5 cm long they are a genuine statement, light enough to wear for an evening and striking with hair pulled back.
No date stamp is visible, so we attribute them to the vintage era rather than to a specific season. They come with a Chanel box.
