Chanel Arabesque Diamond Brooch, Gilt Metal, Early Vintage

A lozenge of gilt scrollwork, deeply modelled, with the double C set at its heart. An early Chanel brooch from the years when the jewellery studio worked in relief rather than in stones.

The Piece

The scrolls, beads and ridged borders echo the carved ornament of an eighteenth-century boiserie panel, flattened into a single diamond and cast in heavy gilt. The CC sits within a small square at the centre.

It is large enough to hold a lapel or a scarf and plain enough to wear with knitwear, and the reverse is hammered and stamped with the house plate.
