The Piece

Issued as a celebratory interpretation of the Type A-2, this 50th Anniversary commemorative model reflects AVIREX's signature approach to aviation heritage, blending military symbolism with contemporary visual narrative. It does not try to recreate the past so much as stylize it, and the result feels closer to a cinematic piece than a uniform-issue garment.

On the front chest, the Half Century 50th Anniversary eagle patch anchors the jacket in heritage pride. Inside, a fully printed commemorative map lining spreads like a war-room table, with routes, borders and terrain lines that are evocative rather than historically literal: identity on the outside, journey within.

The body is sheepskin with cowhide trim and reinforcement accents, giving a softer drape and immediate comfort compared with the rigidity of horsehide. The factory “used” distressing is deliberately bold, with high-contrast sleeve fading, burnished edge highlights and uneven tonal distribution, and the sheepskin takes the treatment in a way that shifts under light and movement.
