Two fashion languages in one JOYRICH jacket: a decadent black print of roses, Renaissance cherubs and gold dollar signs, and, turned inside out, a clean champagne-gold varsity with arched collegiate lettering. A precise document of the extravagant streetwear of the late 2000s and 2010s.

The Piece

JOYRICH occupies a space between Japanese and American fashion culture, drawing on Los Angeles streetwear, Tokyo and Harajuku style, hip-hop, varsity sportswear, pop graphics, celebrity fashion and luxury parody. Its visual world played with wealth, American sportswear and deliberately exaggerated luxury, and this reversible jacket explores two branches of that identity.

The print side covers almost the entire body and sleeves. On a black ground, pale pink and ivory roses and dense green foliage mingle with classical cherub figures, sculptural Renaissance-style faces, small decorative human figures and repeating metallic-gold dollar symbols, overlapping in a wallpaper-like field. The putti recall Renaissance and Baroque religious painting, palace decoration and frescoes; set beside roses and currency, they become playful, extravagant and ironic. From a distance it reads as an elaborate floral bomber; closer inspection reveals the cherubs, faces, figures and, finally, the dollar signs.

Reversed, the jacket becomes a classic varsity or stadium-jumper silhouette: a glossy champagne-gold satin body, closer to antique or warm beige gold than bright metallic yellow, with black sleeves. Large arched JOYRICH collegiate lettering in black with light contrasting borders crosses the chest, and a small JOYRICH-style crest or patch sits near the sleeve cuff. Striped black and white / ivory ribbing at collar, cuffs and waistband frames both faces. Varsity jackets began as American symbols of team membership; here satin replaces wool and leather, and the label's name replaces a school's.

Both sides are finished as true outerwear rather than decorative lining, giving the wearer a flamboyant print bomber and a restrained varsity jacket in a single garment.
