The Piece

This carré does not lean on allegory or philosophy but on function elevated into decoration. The central crimson field creates immediate intensity, and the gold hardware forms a symmetrical composition resembling ceremonial tack laid flat upon a parade ground. Declarative rather than reserved, it belongs to the lineage of bold equestrian compositions that defined Hermès through the 1970s and 1980s.

The harness motif is literal rather than abstract: saddle straps, bit rings, stirrup hardware, decorative bridle fittings and intersecting leather straps. Purple floral accents soften the mechanical geometry and add an aristocratic flourish to an otherwise functional composition, while blue borders frame the piece so that its intensity does not bleed when worn. Crimson is rarely used casually in Hermès carré design; it signals presence, and against gold it evokes regimental ceremony rather than romanticism.
