A Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme zip jacket built entirely from raw-edged patches of wool in moss, bottle green, crimson, burgundy, orange and mustard, an autumn/winter piece of unusual colour for the house.
The Piece
Yohji Yamamoto is known for black, yet some of the most sought-after Pour Homme pieces are the moments when he lets colour in, usually through craft rather than print. This jacket is one of them: a patchwork of irregular wool panels, each cut with a raw, fraying edge and joined with visible contrast top-stitching, so the garment looks assembled by hand from offcuts.
The shapes are angular, triangles and long wedges, set at changing angles across the front, back and sleeves, and the palette is carefully held to warm reds and oranges against two greens with flashes of yellow. The construction continues inside, where the reverse of the panels is left visible rather than lined. A stand collar, an off-centre zip front, two flap pockets and zipped cuffs give it the bones of a work jacket.
The product code HT-J76-904 places it in the Pour Homme main collection; the shop notes it as an autumn/winter design, and the exact season is to be confirmed. The fabric is 100 per cent wool and the jacket is made in Japan.
Tagged size 3, it measures 50 cm across the shoulder with a 60 cm half-chest and an 86 cm length, a relaxed, slightly long cut that sits well over a knit or shirt. It will suit a men's medium to large.
