Yohji Yamamoto women's combat-style boots in soft black leather, laced over strapped panels with an inner side zip, a well-worn pair with the easy, broken-in character that suits the house's clothes.
The Piece
Footwear has always mattered to Yamamoto, who favours flat, solid, slightly military shoes that ground his long, flowing silhouettes. These women's boots, product code FX-E07-753, follow that idea: a low-heeled lace-up boot in black leather, made to be worn hard with long skirts, wide trousers and coats.
The upper is built from soft, slightly wrinkled leather, with horizontal strap panels across the instep and shaft through which the laces run, so the boot looks belted as much as laced. An inner side zip makes them easy to put on without unlacing, and they sit on a stacked heel and a thin rubber sole.
The season is to be confirmed. The insole carries the Yohji Yamamoto signature, and the boots have been worn, with creasing and scuffs that add to their character.
Tagged size 5 (the house's sizing), they measure about 27 cm along the outsole and 9.5 cm across the widest point, with a 19.5 cm shaft. They will suit roughly a women's EU 38 to 39; please compare with a pair you own.
