A Yohji Yamamoto Autumn/Winter 2022 women's jacket with a vast, sharply folded sailor collar, a cut-away asymmetric front and a split back, in textured charcoal cotton and wool.
The Piece
Autumn/Winter 2022 was a severe, sculptural season for Yohji Yamamoto's women's collection in Paris, full of jackets whose collars and fronts had been pulled out of their usual shape. This jacket comes from that collection, and the runway image beside it shows the line as presented: a fitted body thrown off balance by an outsized collar.
The collar is the piece's statement, a deep, flat sailor collar in a smooth black cotton that stands proud of the shoulders and folds down into a long lapel on one side only. Below it the front is cut asymmetrically, one panel overlapping the other with a two-button fastening, and the back is shaped close at the waist before opening into a central split.
The body cloth is a crinkled, textured weave of 65 per cent cotton and 35 per cent wool, with the collar in 100 per cent cotton. The composition label carries the product code FE-J07-108, and the jacket is made in Japan.
Tagged size 2, it measures 42 cm across the shoulder, 48 cm across the chest and 58 cm long, with a 62 cm sleeve. It is close at the waist and suits a women's small to medium.
