The royal blue Vanson rider made for eYe Junya Watanabe MAN in autumn-winter 2010, produced in very small numbers and kept here near unworn with its tags.

The Piece

Vanson of Massachusetts has made American motorcycle leathers since 1974, and Junya Watanabe has turned to the firm repeatedly for collaborations. In autumn-winter 2010, eYe Junya Watanabe MAN released a run of Vanson riders in saturated colours, blue, black, red and yellow, in quantities so small that they are reported to have sold out almost at once.

This is the blue: a vivid royal-blue cowhide in the classic American rider pattern, with an asymmetric front zip, snap-down lapels, zip chest and hand pockets, zip cuffs and a buckled belt at the waist. The lining is a bold blue and red paisley, a characteristic Junya contrast against the clean leather.

Labelled eYe Junya Watanabe MAN Comme des Garçons with the Vanson flag label, size M. The tags, hanger and garment cover are present.

Bright leather riders are rarely worn hard, and this one has been barely worn at all; a striking collector's jacket that remains fully wearable.

• Brand tags retained; the Vanson paper and leather tags were not supplied originally.
