Undercoverism Rebel Clothes Lewis-Style Leather Rider Jacket, Belted Hem, Black, Size 2, Made in Japan

An early Undercoverism Rebel Clothes rider in black cowhide, cut slim and cropped after the classic Lewis Leathers pattern, with a fixed belted hem, zipped cuffs and a burgundy lining.

The Piece

Undercoverism was Jun Takahashi's diffusion line of the 2000s, the place where the punk wardrobe that had first made Undercover famous was distilled into durable, wearable pieces. The Rebel Clothes label inside this jacket marks it as part of that line, and the piece is attributed to around autumn-winter 2008.

The jacket takes its pattern directly from the classic British rider: an asymmetric zip, wide snap-down lapels, two zipped hand pockets, a sleeve-top zip pocket, zipped cuffs and a belt across the hem fitted with a pair of buckles. The belt is stitched in place. The cowhide has softened into the creases of a well-cared-for jacket, and the interior is lined in deep burgundy cotton with grey cupro sleeves.

The fit is slim and short in the body, ideal over a T-shirt or fine knit. Size 2 measures 37 cm across the shoulders and 43.5 cm across the chest, so it suits a slender frame of either sex. Photographs on a size 9 (Japanese women's medium) mannequin show the intended line.

• Pre-owned in good condition.
• Natural creasing to the leather but no notable damage.
• The printed motif on the sleeve has worn away (see last photograph).
• Lining clean; zips and snaps in working order.
