A black wool varsity jacket from Undercoverism Autumn/Winter 2013, with a full rib cage and spine raised across the back, chenille BRUIT lettering at the front and cowhide sleeves.
The Piece
Anatomy ran through Jun Takahashi's work for Autumn/Winter 2013, and the skeleton became one of its defining images. This varsity jacket from the Undercoverism menswear line, reference L4208, is among the most coveted pieces of that period, and the description notes the model as one Takahashi himself was seen wearing.
The back is taken over by a rib cage and spine in raised, rubberised grey, almost three-dimensional against the black wool. On the front, the word BRUIT, French for noise, is spelled out in black chenille letters, a tone-on-tone detail that only shows in the light.
The construction follows the classic varsity form: a wool and nylon body, black cowhide sleeves, snap front, welt pockets and a ribbed collar, cuffs and hem striped in grey. It is padded for warmth and lined in cupro, and fits close in the Japanese size 2.
This example has only been tried on and carefully stored, with no visible marks to the wool, leather or the rib cage graphic. A rare chance to own one of Undercover's most graphic jackets in near-new condition.
