Undercover’s Autumn-Winter 2023 varsity jacket made with Kamilla Tolnø’s Chaos Balance, in mustard wool with black cowhide sleeves and A Wolf Will Never Be A Pet spelt out in chenille.
The Piece
For Autumn-Winter 2023 Jun Takahashi worked with the Danish artist Kamilla Tolnø and her Chaos Balance project, and the varsity jacket became the defining piece of the collaboration. Its slogan, A Wolf Will Never Be A Pet, is a neat summary of Undercover’s attitude after more than thirty years.
The body is mustard-yellow wool melton with a snap front, slanted welt pockets and black-striped rib collar, cuffs and hem. The front is covered with mismatched chenille letters in blue, green, red, cream and black, and the back carries UNDER COVER around a large chenille rose with a single drop of red. The black cowhide sleeves have their own embroidered and chenille motifs, and the body is lined in quilted black.
The neck label reads Undercover Jun Takahashi. Composition: wool 96%, nylon 4%; sleeves cowhide; rib acrylic 70%, wool 30%; padding polyester; lining cupro. Made in Japan.
Size 3 equates to a men’s large, with a roomy chest and a slightly cropped length. It is a strong, joyful piece of contemporary Undercover.
