Jun Takahashi’s three-layer NOISE parka from Spring-Summer 2018: a technical shell with oversized NOISE lettering, an off-centre zip, a clear watch window at the cuff and the spiritualnoise screw motif at the back hem.
The Piece
Jun Takahashi has always treated punk as a design method rather than a costume, and the NOISE jacket from Spring-Summer 2018 shows it well. The house had been moving towards hard technical outerwear, and here the language of mountain gear is bent into something closer to a stage piece: asymmetry, oversized type and a cuff built to read a watch through a clear panel.
The shell is a waterproof three-layer polyester with fully taped seams. Raised NOISE letters run across the chest in a perforated, textured panel; the front zip runs off-centre from the hood to the hem, flanked by water-resistant zip pockets and a D-ring. On the left cuff a round transparent window lets you check the time without pulling back the sleeve, and the back hem carries the printed screw with the word spiritualnoise. A vivid green tape lines the interior seams.
The inside label reads Undercover Jun Takahashi; the care tag gives UCU4202-2, size 2, 100% polyester, made in Japan. Original retail in Japan was around ¥148,000.
Size 2 sits close but not tight, with room for a knit underneath. It is equally at home in city rain as on a cool spring evening, and it remains one of the most recognisable Undercover technical pieces of the last decade.
