Undercover's officially licensed Alfred Hitchcock varsity from Autumn/Winter 2022: black wool body, black cowhide sleeves and the director's famous profile in chenille across the back.
The Piece
The Hitchcock self-caricature, the line-drawn profile the director used as his signature, is one of the most recognisable marks in cinema, and Jun Takahashi put it to brilliant use in Autumn/Winter 2022. This varsity places a large oval chenille patch of Hitchcock's face, framed by HITCHCOCK in block letters, at the centre of the back.
The front is restrained: a chenille U at the left chest, the line-drawn profile embroidered small at the right with licensing text beneath, and white snap buttons down the placket. The body is heavy melton wool, the raglan sleeves are smooth black cowhide, and the striped rib collar, cuffs and hem are in black and cream. A quilted lining and polyester padding make it a properly warm winter jacket.
Model UC2B4203-1, tagged size 2 and made in Japan; body wool 90% nylon 10%, sleeves cowhide, lining cupro, padding polyester. Size 2 suits a men's medium with a roomy varsity cut.
Few licensed film pieces manage to be this graphic and this wearable at once.
