A Junya Watanabe MAN varsity jacket rebuilt with The North Face, its charcoal wool body cut through with yellow and black technical nylon and a large Half Dome logo panel across the back.
The Piece
The North Face has been one of Junya Watanabe’s most enduring partners, and the MAN line returns to it season after season to splice mountaineering hardware into classic menswear archetypes. Here the subject is the American varsity jacket, the most traditional of campus outerwear, reassembled with the colours and fabrics of an expedition shell.
The body is a charcoal wool and nylon melton with cream snap buttons and striped knit collar, cuffs and hem in navy and cream. The shoulders and sleeves are pieced in yellow and black nylon with cream accents, and the back is a patchwork of yellow panels printed with a large The North Face logo, finished with a buckled utility strap at the hem. There are welt zip pockets at the chest and hips with metal pulls, and the inside is lined with a brushed flannel check.
Size S is cut neatly through the body with raglan-style sleeves and a cropped varsity length. It suits a slim small to medium wearer and layers well over a sweatshirt.
