Junya Watanabe's AD2025 rider jacket whose sleeves are built as lace-up work boots, complete with eyelets, welted seams and a quilted burgundy lining.

The Piece

Junya Watanabe has spent three decades taking familiar garments apart and reassembling them into something new. For his AD2025 collection, believed to be autumn-winter 2025, he fused two icons of rebellion, the motorcycle jacket and the lace-up work boot, into a single piece.

The body is a classic asymmetric rider with a zip front, notched lapels with snaps, zip pockets and a belted hem. The sleeves, however, are constructed as boots: eyelets and laces run up the outer arm, heavy contrast welt stitching wraps the shoulder, and the sleeve heads open into flared, boot-collar cuffs that stand away from the body.

The outer is a polyurethane-coated synthetic leather with cowhide trim, which keeps the sculptural sleeves crisp and the weight manageable. Inside, a deep burgundy quilted satin lining. Labelled Junya Watanabe Comme des Garçons, model JP-J102, made in Japan, size M.

Worn closed with a slim skirt or trousers, it becomes the whole outfit; a true collector's statement from a recent season.
