A Gucci smoking jacket in jumbo GG, reference 715702 ZAJIK: a beige ground raised with black GG, a deep black shawl collar, matching cuffs and twisted cord detailing, made in Italy.
The Piece
The smoking jacket belongs to the private side of men’s dress, worn at home or for evenings among friends, and Alessandro Michele’s Gucci loved its theatricality. Here the house logo itself becomes the pattern, scaled up into a jumbo GG and given texture so it reads almost like flock wallpaper.
Reference 715702 ZAJIK is cut from a viscose-blend fabric with a beige cotton-linen ground and the oversized GG standing proud in black. A wide black shawl collar runs to a single-button front, matching deep black cuffs finish the sleeves, and a twisted cord of black and gold outlines the edges and loops into knots at the cuffs, a nod to traditional frogging. It is lined in a gold twill and carries the Gucci woven label, made in Italy; the Gucci hang tag is still attached.
The cut is relaxed and long, falling to 83 cm, so it can be worn as a statement blazer or belted over trousers.
Belted over black trousers it becomes an evening coat; open over a black roll-neck it is a confident dinner jacket. Pieces like this capture the maximalism of Alessandro Michele’s Gucci better than almost anything else from the period. Tagged 48 (175/92A), it fits a men’s medium.
