It looks like a sun-bleached, ripped denim jacket; it is in fact soft lambskin, printed edge to edge with a photographic denim image, a sly piece of Fendi trompe-l’oeil.
The Piece
Fendi menswear, led by Silvia Venturini Fendi, has always enjoyed a joke at the expense of materials: fur that looks like fabric, leather that looks like something else. Trompe-l’oeil, the art of deceiving the eye, runs through the house’s history, and this jacket is a perfect example. The precise season has not been confirmed.
The whole jacket is cut from lambskin printed with a realistic image of faded indigo denim, complete with whiskering, bleach marks and painted rips. It has a stand collar with a snap tab, a concealed front, zipped slash pockets on the chest and sleeve, a large zipped patch pocket, a belted hem with a contrast strap and snap cuffs with Fendi-engraved snaps on pale leather tabs. It is lined in cotton.
Size 48 is a trim, cropped fit that finishes at the waist. It wears like a denim trucker with the weight and drape of leather.
Only someone close enough to touch it will know it is not denim, which is exactly the point. It is in clean pre-owned condition with no notable marks.
