A new, tagged Hebrew Mechanics jacket from Enfants Riches Déprimés: sun-faded black cotton canvas, a crucifix and Hebrew-grid collage across the back, painted script at the chest and a woven tapestry patch at the pocket.

The Piece

Enfants Riches Déprimés treats workwear the way it treats tailoring, as a surface for collage. Henri Alexander Levy’s garments are washed, faded and abraded by design, then printed with layered imagery drawn from religious iconography, old print and the label’s own private mythology. Each piece is finished by hand and ships with the house notice that rips, burns and cracks are intentional, so no two are exactly alike.

The Hebrew Mechanics jacket is a short, zip-front work jacket in heavy 100% cotton, garment-dyed and washed to a soft, uneven charcoal black. The back carries a large printed collage: a crucifix set over a grid of Hebrew letters, framed by a portrait above and an eye below, with E, R and D spaced across the yoke. On the front, white painted script marks the chest, a small embroidered device sits beside the zip, and a woven tapestry panel with the label’s name is set into the lower pocket. The zip pull is engraved ERD, the cuffs close with metal buttons, and the collar edges and placket are frayed by hand.

It wears with a slightly boxy, cropped workwear line that suits denim and heavy trousers, and the washed canvas will continue to soften with wear.

This example has never been worn and keeps all of its tags, including the special-treatment notice, along with the original bag.
