Chanel Sunburst Emblem Brooch with Crest, Gilt Metal, Early Vintage

A crested medallion at the centre of a gilt sunburst, 4.3 cm across. An early Chanel brooch with the weight and the hammered reverse of the house’s best gilding.

The Piece

The medallion bears a heraldic crest with the double C, ringed by a beaded border and set within long, ridged rays, the kind of royal motif Chanel borrowed from the decorative arts of the Grand Siècle.

The back is hammered and carries the Chanel plate; the pin shows slight oxidation but closes as it should.
