Chanel Camellia Brooch, Crystal Pavé on Gunmetal, Autumn 2000 (00A)

The camellia in pierced gunmetal, its petals outlined in crystals and the double C pavé at the heart. From Autumn 2000 (stamp 00A), 4.8 cm across, with every stone in place.

The Piece

Gabrielle Chanel adopted the camellia because it has no scent; the house has made it in silk, leather, tweed and metal ever since. This version traces the petals in open metalwork and lines each one with small crystals.

The blackened metal makes it an evening piece that still wears well on a day coat or a knit.
